The Long Hall is an art space that John and I founded in 2001.
Located in one of Montreal's most interesting neighborhoods, Park Extension, The Long Hall is housed on the second floor of an old brick industrial building.
We, the Long Haulers, occupy the entire 6000sq./ft. of the second/top floor. With large old windows everywhere and an unusual "L" shaped floor plan, the space lends itself to being divided up into two separate wings.
Upon finding it in a state of ruin, and signing on to a more than affordable two year lease, John and I renovated the soon-to-be Long Hall space in order for it to become a functional home and workplace for many.
One wing is literally a long hallway with many doors that lead into individual or shared studio spaces that we sublet to local artists. There are a total of nine studio spaces, all varied in size.
The other wing is where john and I live and work. We each have our respective studio spaces and our 1000 square foot living room doubles as a gallery/exhibition space.
We rent out our gallery on a non-profit basis to talented emerging artists, students and collectives working in any medium. By fostering local artists and their work, promoting alternatives to the mainstream art scene, and by breaking the boundaries between the private and public space, the Long Hall strives to maintain these ideals and continues to evolve.
